Mattress firmness H1–H5

Firmness tells you how far you sink into a mattress. The scale has five levels, from very soft H1 to very firm H5.

  • H1Very softup to 60 kg

Deep sink, for a lighter build and side sleeping.

  • H2Soft50–80 kg

Gentle support; shoulders and hips sink in comfortably.

  • H3Medium70–100 kg

The all-round choice, balancing comfort and support.

  • H4Firm90–120 kg

Solid support for back sleeping and a higher body weight.

  • H5Very firmover 110 kg

Minimal sink, for a heavier build and stomach sleeping.

The weight is a general guide only, not a property of a particular mattress.

How to choose the firmness

Treat the firmness level as a rough guide. Every manufacturer rates it a little differently, and how a mattress suits you depends on your weight, sleeping position and personal feel.

The best way to choose a mattress is to sleep on it at home. That’s why you get 30 nights to try it, and if it doesn’t suit you, we’ll offer an exchange or give you your money back.

Body weight matters most. The heavier you are, the firmer the mattress you need, so that your body does not sink in and your spine stays straight.

Your sleeping position plays a part too. Side sleepers suit a softer mattress that lets the shoulder and hip sink in. Back sleepers suit medium to firm, and stomach sleepers rather firm, so that the lower back does not sag.

Some mattresses have a different firmness on each side, so you can change the firmness by turning them over. If you sleep as a couple and each of you needs a different firmness, choose two separate mattresses.
